AMO introduces artificial tear in Asian market
HONG KONG — Advanced Medical Optics announced the introduction of an artificial tear in the Asian market.
In an interview with Ocular Surgery News, Han-Bor Fam, MD, of Singapore, said he routinely uses the current Blink Contacts drops in his patients after LASIK to increase tear break-up time and patient comfort. He is anticipating that the new release, Blink Tears, will become a staple in his practice.
"There's no perfect artificial tear supplement at the moment. There are many on the market, and different patients or even the same patient at different times prefer different tear supplements. But if you ask me, I use hyaluronic acid as a treatment for dry eyes, and it is accepted by about 60%, 70% of patients in my practice," Dr. Fam said. "Now we have Blink Intensive Tears, which is a hyaluronic acid. ... I'm sure I will use it even more frequently."
Richard A. Meier, AMO president and chief operating officer, called Blink Tears a valuable addition to the company's cataract, refractive and eye care product lines.
Blink Tears was launched in the United States in March.
