SANTA ANA, Calif.— Advanced Medical Optics has entered into a collaboration agreement with the Institute for Eye Research to develop contact lens disinfectant and cleaning solutions, as well as other related products for ophthalmic indications, AMO announced in a press release.

Headquartered in Sydney, Australia, the Institute for Eye Research (IER) is a non-profit organization that conducts contract and collaborative research focusing on vision correction, eye care, the anterior eye, contact lenses, contact lens care and patient management, according to the release.

"IER's world-class scientists and clinicians have had a major impact on the development of contact lenses and lens care technologies," Leonard Borrmann, AMO's executive vice president, research and development, said in the release. "We look forward to working closely with the IER on the development of next-generation contact lens solutions."

Among their goals, the collaboration hopes to develop safer and more convenient containers for storage, cleaning and disinfection, the IER said in the release.
