SANTA ANA, Calif. — Advanced Medical Optics has entered into a U.S. patent license agreement with Carl Zeiss Meditec regarding the use of femtosecond laser technology, according to an AMO press release.

Within the scope of the agreement, AMO's IntraLase subsidiary has granted a non-exclusive, royalty-bearing license to Carl Zeiss for it to use the IntraLase patent portfolio to provide femtosecond laser technology for corneal surgery.

Other terms of the agreement are confidential, the release said.

In November 2006, before being acquired by AMO, IntraLase Corp. had filed a lawsuit against Carl Zeiss alleging that Carl Zeiss improperly used confidential product information to develop a device based on the IntraLase FS femtosecond laser.
