IRVINE, Calif. — Allergan will consolidate its European operations into facilities in Britain, Ireland and the United States, the company said in a press release earlier this week. The company said potential cost savings were a primary cause for the consolidation.

The restructuring will cost about $50 to $60 million but will not affect the company’s 2004 outlook, its ongoing guidance or the size of its European sales force, the press release said. Expected savings from the restructuring are about $6 to $9 million annually.

The release did not specify which European facilities would be affected. The company currently has operations in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland in addition to Ireland and Britain.
