Allergan net sales increase, profit falls

IRVINE, Calif. — Allergan Inc. earnings from continuing operations rose 21% for the year, led by pharmaceutical sales increases of around 8.3%, according to a company statement. Net sales for the company for the year increased 19.9% to $1.4 billion.

However, net profit fell to $64.4 million from $84 million during fiscal 2001, the statement said.

Net sales for the fourth quarter rose to $378.2 million, attributable mainly to increased sales of glaucoma medications and Botox, according to the company.

Sales of glaucoma products for fiscal 2002 increased 24.6% from 2001. Sales of the Alphagan (brimonidine) product line were $248.5 million. Sales of Lumigan (bimatoprost) increased 245.8% to $123 million.
