Alimera Sciences introduces emollient dry-eye drop

ATLANTA — A new dry eye drop is the first multidose, emollient-based artificial tear product to be introduced to the market, according to the drop’s marketer.

Alimera Sciences’ Soothe Emollient Eye Drops use an “advanced lipid restorative” to re-establish the eye’s protective lipid layer to reduce tear evaporation and seal essential moisture, according to a company press release. Alimera said it expects to have the product available in U.S. retail outlets beginning next month.

Alimera licensed the product from Ocular Research of Boston. Alimera Sciences was founded by former Novartis Ophthalmics executives earlier this year and completed a round of venture capital funding last month.
