Alcon to introduce AcrySof phakic IOL at ESCRS
HUENENBERG, Switzerland Alcon plans to announce the international release of its AcrySof phakic lens at the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons annual meeting in Berlin, the company announced in a press release.
Designed to correct moderate to high levels of myopia, the AcrySof advanced angle-supported phakic IOL is a foldable lens that will be available in four lengths with refractive powers ranging from 6 D to 16.5 D, the release said.
The lens received a European CE Mark in August based on positive results from a clinical trial that enrolled 360 patients. In the study, the lens significantly improved uncorrected visual acuity to an average of 20/25 or better with minimal central and peripheral endothelial cell loss over 3 years of follow-up.
Studies on the lens are under way in the United States.
