Alcon to build manufacturing plant in Singapore
HUENENBERG, Switzerland Alcon has broken ground in Singapore's Tuas Biomedical Park to build its first pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Asia, the company announced in a press release.
Alcon expects the 330,000-square-foot plant, which will manufacture ophthalmic pharmaceuticals for Asian markets, to be completed in 2012 and to create 150 new jobs.
"With the rapid growth we are experiencing in Asia, this new Singapore plant is integral to our ability to meet the increasing demand for our products in the region," Ed McGough, Alcon's senior vice president for global manufacturing and technological operations, said in the release."The strategically positioned Singapore location, coupled with the increased capacity of this plant, will help us supply Asia with essential eye care pharmaceuticals more efficiently and maintain the high-quality service our customers have come to expect from Alcon."
The plant's position in Tuas, centrally located in the Asian marketplace, was conceived with and supported by the Economic Development Board of Singapore, the release said.
