PARIS — Alcon announced the launch of its new AcrySert C preloaded IOL injector at a company-sponsored media event here.

"Surgeons are looking for ways to eliminate variability in IOL implantation," Donald Serafano, MD, said at the event held during the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons meeting. "This is a real winner for surgeons."

Dr. Serafano pointed out that staff turnover in many surgical practices makes lens loading consistently difficult to achieve. This device eliminates that variability, as well as for handling and sterilization issues.

The plunger has a "consistent feel," with consistent resistance throughout the injection, and in a blindfolded test that Dr. Serafano performed, he could not determine any difference between pushing an empty chamber vs. one loaded with an IOL.
