Alcon launches +3 add power IOL

BERLIN — Alcon launched a new +3 add power AcrySof ReSTOR IOL here at the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, according to a press release from the company.

"My clinical experience is that this new lens allows many of my patients to read at a more comfortable distance and also improves their intermediate vision, without affecting visual disturbances or image contrast," José F. Alfonso, MD, PhD, said in the release.

According to the press release, at 3-month follow up of the +3 add power AcrySof ReSTOR aspheric IOL, 95% of patients achieved 20/40 vision at near, intermediate and distance. Of the patients implanted with the lens, clinical studies showed 96% would have the lens implanted again, the release stated.

"The addition of the +3.0 add power AcrySof ReSTOR aspheric IOL provides surgeons with an additional IOL option to meet the clinical needs of their patients and further enhances our leadership position in this category," said Kevin Buehler, senior vice president, global markets and chief marketing officer.

The IOL is now available in most major markets outside of the U.S., according to the release.
