Alcon, AMO enter cross-licensing patent agreement
HUENENBERG, Switzerland — Alcon has entered into a patent cross-licensing agreement with Advanced Medical Optics involving a specific one-piece IOL haptic design and lubricious coatings for IOL insertion devices, Alcon announced in a press release.
Under the agreement, AMO will pay Alcon an initial sum of $10 million for nonexclusive, worldwide licenses to single-piece IOL designs that are essentially the same as AMO's recently launched Tecnis model ZCB00 IOL. The licenses guarantee AMO freedom to operate with respect to the subject Alcon patents relating to the Model ZCB00 IOL lens and any potential IOL models utilizing a similar design platform, according to the release.
In addition, Alcon will pay AMO a lump sum of $31 million for nonexclusive, worldwide licenses under two families of patents owned by AMO involving lubricious coatings for IOL insertion devices. The licenses ensure Alcon freedom to operate with respect to the subject AMO patents relating to the coating systems currently utilized in its Monarch and AcrySert brand IOL insertion devices, as well as any similar coating systems Alcon may develop, the release said.
All other terms of the agreement remain undisclosed.
