Acuvue Oasys granted approval for extended wear

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Acuvue Oasys contact lenses with Hydraclear Plus are now approved for wear up to 6 consecutive nights and 7 days, said the lens marketer in a press release.

Vistakon said the Acuvue Oasys is the first daily-wear contact lens made from senofilcon A, a silicone hydrogel material “that is 50% smoother than currently available silicone hydrogel lenses.” The company said the lenses block more than 96% of ultraviolet A rays and more than 98% of ultraviolet B rays.

Patient discomfort as a result of dryness affects about 67% of contact lens wearers in the United States, Vistakon said in its release. Vistakon’s Hydraclear technology “combines high performance base materials with a moisture-rich wetting agent,” the release said. In clinical studies of more than 190 contact lens wearers, patients wearing Acuvue Oasys reported consistently clear, crisp vision and said their eyes remained fresh and moist, Vistakon said.

Vistakon is a division of Johnson & Johnson.
