Accommodating lens enhances vision at all distances in French study
PARIS An aberration-free accommodating IOL was found to be effective in providing good vision at all distances, according to results of a multicenter study in France.
"We have implanted [the Crystalens AO (Bausch + Lomb)] in 38 eyes of 19 patients with a mean age of 67 years. The classic implantation technique for Crystalens was used, performing a large 5.5-mm [to] 6-mm capsulorrhexis and enlarging the phaco incision to 2.8 mm at the time of lens insertion. The dedicated Crystalens injector was used," Dominique Pietrini, MD, said at the meeting of the French Society of Ophthalmology.
"At 3 months, patients were 20/20 at near and intermediate and were able to read J2 at near. All of them were very satisfied with their results," he said.
No halos or other photic phenomena were reported.
According to Dr. Pietrini, the Crystalens AO is the ideal implant for young presbyopic patients who need high-quality vision at all distances, including intermediate for computer use.
