ABBOTT PARK, Ill. — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted market clearance to Abbott Medical Optics for its RevitaLens Ocutec multipurpose disinfecting solution for silicone hydrogel and conventional soft contact lenses, AMO announced.

The comprehensive, next-generation solution — which has already received a European CE mark — is designed to kill microorganisms, remove protein deposits from lenses, decrease corneal staining and minimize eye complications.

"Proper contact lens care, including a rub and rinse regimen using RevitaLens Ocutec, will help patients achieve clean and comfortable lenses while enhancing overall lens-wearing satisfaction," Jim Mazzo, senior vice president for AMO, said in the release.

The company plans to begin shipping RevitaLens Ocutec multipurpose disinfecting solution in the U.S. this month.
