SAN FRANCISCO — In his address during the opening session of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus meeting, Bradley C. Black, MD, said the society is strong and growing, but all members need to become involved politically.

"All politics is local," he said. "Cultivate local relationships and get to know your local legislators."

With 1,300 members, 800 of whom are attending the annual meeting here, Dr. Black, president of AAPOS, said the society is healthy and growing. The organization plans to hire an executive vice president this year to help carry out the society's plans and policy, create better continuity within the organization, and handle public relations duties, he said.

The society also plans to launch a new Web site for its members, their patients and the families of their patients at AAPOS.org by the summer, Dr. Black said.
