SAN FRANCISCO — The American Academy of Ophthalmology has confirmed that its annual meeting in 2007 will be held in New Orleans, as originally scheduled. After the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, meeting organizers debated moving the location of the meeting, according to a press release from the AAO.

One of the problems with moving the meeting would be the short amount of time left for finding another site capable of hosting the 25,000 attendees expected. New Orleans has been a favorite location for the AAO meeting because of its central location and appeal to both Americans and international attendees, the press release noted.

“Hosting the meeting in New Orleans speaks volumes to our faith as an organization in the city and people of New Orleans,” said Susan H. Day, MD, the AAO president, in the press release.

The meeting will be held Nov. 10-13.
