Gullapalli N. Rao

Gullapalli N. Rao, MD, MBBS, PhD, founder and chairman of the LV Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderabad, India, was awarded the Bernardo Streiff Gold Medal at the World Ophthalmology Congress in Berlin on June 5.

According to a statement from LVPEI, Dr. Rao is the first Indian to receive the award, which is conferred to an ophthalmologist who has contributed to the advancement of history, ethics and education in the field.

The medal is awarded at the WOC every 4 years by the Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis, a 64-member group comprising notable academics in ophthalmology.
