As you read through the pages of this month’s issue, you will notice that the Feature Story is not a staff-written article. Rather, it is the first of what we hope will be many reader-submitted articles, providing insight into issues and topics that you not only deal with in your own practices, but also those you feel are important for other surgeons to learn more about and discuss.

In this issue, Brad Elkins, MD, shares his approach to performing LASIK in patients who are less-than-enthusiastic about the idea of someone even examining their eyes. Find out what steps Dr. Elkins takes to help his patients achieve their best possible surgical results in the article “Dealing with extremely anxious patients during LASIK,” found on page 12.

Interested in sending us an article of your own? Here are a few key points to keep in mind.

Articles should be of interest to high-volume refractive cataract surgeons, serving as another one of the “tools in the toolbox” that Premier Surgeon strives to present to its readers. Additionally, submitted articles appropriate to Premier Surgeon are those focused on:

  • Big-picture concepts within refractive cataract surgery.
  • Specific surgical techniques for the most experienced surgeons with the most up-to-date technology (not review or basic articles).
  • Practice development tips with real-world applications for refractive cataract surgical practices only.

To submit an article of your own, contact me via e-mail at the address provided below. We are always happy to hear from our readers and look forward to hearing what you have to share!
