Tesa Medical receives patent for bioabsorbable device

Tesa Medical Inc. has received a patent for its GraftGrab device, a bioabsorbable device for affixing graft to bone during ACL reconstruction.

According to a company press release, the device is designed to fix an ACL graft with a single fluid motion to maintain graft tension as well as reduce surgery time and instrumentation.

“Loss of initial graft tension continues to be a problem with soft tissue interference screws and can contribute to problems associated with joint instability,” Mandi Lopez, MD, co-inventor of the device, stated in the release. “The bioabsorbable GraftGrab is positioned on the cortical surface of the tibial bone tunnel and has a simple mechanism for anchoring the graft immediately after tensioning that minimizes the likelihood of graft tension loss.”
