Sexual and gender minority health care in child neurology is “such an important topic that just hasn’t gotten enough attention,” according to Ariel Maia Lyons-Warren, MD, PhD.

At the Child Neurology Society annual meeting in Vancouver, the organizers not only “talked about what we as child neurologists need to know when we’re caring for individuals who might be LGBTQ, but also how child neurology diseases are differentially expressed in this population,” said Lyons-Warren, an instructor of child neurology at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital. “Because just like every other population, there are specific things that we need to know when we’re taking care of them. I thought that was really helpful clinically and also generally an important topic to draw attention to.”
