CHICAGO – Deanna Saylor, MD, MHS, discussed how certain infectious diseases can lead to neurological complications in a presentation at the 2022 American Neurological Association meeting.
“Have a high degree of suspicion for central nervous system infections, especially in people with HIV infection,” Saylor, associate director of neurological consultation services at Johns Hopkins Medicine, said. “We talked a lot about [tuberculosis] and the difficulties with starting empiric treatment for TB in the [United States] as compared to other settings, but recognizing that TB diagnostics are quite poor.”
