SEATTLE — Patients with acute ischemic stroke need access to lifesaving thrombectomy in all areas of the world, a speaker said at the 2022 American Academy of Neurology annual meeting.

In 2016, Dileep R. Yavagal, MD, MBBS, clinical professor of neurology and neurosurgery at the University of Miami Health System, launched Mission Thrombectomy 2020+, a global initiative that strives to expand and accelerate access to thrombectomy. Through the campaign, Yavagal and colleagues use public health interventions in low-income regions to influence policy, resources and training in health care settings.
