NxStage Kidney Care opens new center in Florida

NxStage Kidney Care Inc., a subsidiary of NxStage Medical Inc. has opened a new dialysis center in Jacksonville, Fla. The center is certified to provide home hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and in-center dialysis. The Jacksonville facility is the second dialysis center for the company. It opened its first dialysis center outside St. Louis in Des Peres, Mo. in October 2013.

Dutch Kidney Foundation joins AWAK, Debiotech in developing smaller home hemodialysis machine

Debiotech of Switzerland, AWAK of Singapore, and Neokidney Development, an initiative of the Dutch Kidney Foundation, have signed a joint venture agreement to develop a miniaturized home hemodialysis machine. This new system will be based on Debiotech's miniaturized peritoneal dialysis equipment DialEase, and AWAK's novel sorbent technology for fluid purification. Neokidney Development will provide access to the Dutch Kidney Foundation's medical expertise and network of internationally acclaimed nephrologists and patient organizations, and will mobilize funding from public and private sources, including health insurers and social impact investors, according to a news release.

FDA clears Mar Cor Purification's BioPure HX2 water treatment system

Mar Cor Purification, a subsidiary of Cantel Medical has been given 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the BioPure HX2, a heat disinfectable central reverse osmosis (RO) water system for dialysis. The BioPure HX2 is a Double Pass RO with automatic hot water disinfection with four different modes. Mar Cor had previously been awarded a Class 3 Device License from Health Canada in 2013 for the system, which has been available in the Canadian and international markets for more than a year.

DaVita begins first hemodiafiltration program in the United States

Dialysis provider DaVita Kidney Care said it has started delivering hemodiafiltration treatments to select patients in Colorado Springs as part of a six-month trial program. This program is the first commercial use of hemodiafiltration in the United States.

NxStage exceeds guidance range in Q1 revenue for 2014

Dialysis product manufacturer NxStage Medical Inc. reported revenue for the first quarter of 2014 increased 17% to $72.2 million, compared with revenue of $61.6 million in the same quarter last year. The company exceeded its revenue guidance range of $69.5 to $70.5 million for the first quarter of 2014. NxStage attributed the increase to strong sales of itsSystem One hemodialysis machine in both the home dialysis and critical care markets.

FDA clears Centurion portable dialysis water treatment system with heat disinfection

The Centurion portable dialysis water treatment system from AmeriWater has been approved for marketing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use in medical facilities or at home. New research shows survival benefit with daily dialysis in a nursing home setting

LAS VEGAS – Patients treated on-site in a nursing home setting with daily home hemodialysis had lower monthly mortality rates and longer median survival when compared to conventional thrice-weekly dialysis, according to new research presented at the 2014 National Kidney Foundation Spring Clinical Meetings. Affiliated Dialysis Centers LLC, an independent dialysis provider based in Illinois, shared the release of clinical data in a Late Breaking Poster Session at the 2014 National Kidney Foundation Spring Clinical Meetings here. Xelay Acumen, a strategy and medical data analytics firm, independently led the data collection and analysis effort, and Dr. Alex Yang, MD, presented the results.

NxStage to expand into peritoneal dialysis, open more care centers in 2014
