Featured speakers for the meeting are Peter Friend, MD, chief medical officer and co-founder of OrganOx of the University of Oxford, and Alex M. Azar II, who served as HHS Secretary from 2018 to 2021 and led the COVID-19-era Operation Warp Speed vaccination effort.

Friend, who is also vice-president and trustee of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a professor of transplantation at Oxford, will discuss the future of organ perfusions. Azar will focus on the private and public sectors and current issues in transplantation.

The American Transplant Congress (ATC) Annual Meeting will mark the 70th anniversary of the first successful kidney transplant and will offer a forum for new scientific and clinical research on transplantation techniques, advances in immunosuppressive therapy and ethical considerations.

“We’re proud to present an engaging selection of state-of-the-art speakers at ATC 2024,” Josh Levitsky, MD, MS, FAST, FAASLD, president of the American Society of Transplantation, said in the release. “The two speakers bring a powerful combination of scientific expertise and insightful leadership that will set the stage for transformative discussions.”
