Texas Children’s Hospital was named the top hospital for pediatric nephrology, according to the 2023 to 2024 Best Children’s Hospitals rankings by U.S. News & World Report.

Texas Children’s Hospital jumped to the number 1 spot on the list this year, which includes 50 children's nephrology centers, after ranking third in the category last year.

Scores were based on clinical outcomes, compliance with best practices and available hospital resources. U.S. News & World Report also made changes to the list criteria this year to place less emphasis on expert opinion and more on measures like quality standards and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

The hospital also received the No. 3 spot on the Best Children’s Hospitals Honor Roll.

“We are immensely proud to remain the top pediatric hospital in Texas and to be recognized among the top three pediatric hospitals in the country,” Mark A. Wallace, president and CEO of Texas Children’s said in the hospital press release. “I am grateful for the dedication and expertise of all our faculty and employees, whose continued pursuit of excellence has made these outstanding rankings possible.”

U.S. News & World Report partnered with research and consulting firm RTI International to collect data from 119 children’s hospitals and survey pediatric specialists for the rankings.

“Parents of sick children face many difficult challenges, including how to identify the best children’s hospital to treat their illness or condition," Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at the publication, said in a press release. “The rankings, which are increasingly determined by objective measures of hospital quality, can help them make informed decisions.”

Other outstanding hospitals for pediatric nephrology include Boston Children's Hospital, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Nationwide Children's Hospital, which round out the top-five ranked centers on the list.
