KANSAS CITY, Missouri — In this interview from the Annual Dialysis Conference, Paige Wheatley, PhD, microbiologist at Light Line Medical, discussed the design and pre-clinical findings of the company’s disinfectant system.

The 405nm Photo Disinfection System was designed using visible 405nm light therapy to fight peritoneal infections.

“Light Line Medical’s goal is to prevent air and touch contamination at the minicap end of transfer sets where [peritoneal dialysis] PD patients actually cause 91.5% of infections. We found in preclinical studies that our system kills over 99.99% of bugs, so pathogens associated with peritonitis,” Wheatley said. “The real goal is to save lives and get this technology onto the market as soon as possible. We feel confident with this initial dataset — we have one more pathogen to work on — but we feel confident that we will be successful in our FDA clearance of our photo disinfectant system.”
