The AMA, American Society of Nephrology and CDC announced the launch of new CME modules designed to improve infection control in outpatient dialysis settings, according to the press release.
The new modules consist of a four-part video series that outlines the steps health care professionals can take to protect their patients, colleagues and themselves from infections. Each part of the video series focuses on a different key infection control measure needed in a dialysis setting. These include proper hand hygiene, injection safety, personal protective equipment and environmental cleaning and disinfection.
The CME module is also a part of the national infection control collaborative from the CDC, Project Firstline.
“Every individual in the dialysis facility plays a critical role in infection prevention. Infection remains among the top two leading causes of hospitalization and death in people on dialysis. The dialysis facility design is unique, demands on staff are complex and there are risks of infection transmission with each life-sustaining treatment. ASN is proud to partner with the AMA and CDC’s Project Firstline to share infection prevention educational materials specifically designed with dialysis facility staff in mind. When it comes to preventing infection in people on dialysis, moments matter,” Michelle Josephson, MD, FASN, president of ASN, said in the release.
