The three-way merger of InterWell Health, Cricket Health and Fresenius Health Partners has been completed, according to a press release.
As Healio previously reported, the merger was announced in March as a step toward value-based nephrology care.
According to the release, the new company will operate under the InterWell brand and will be responsible for an estimated $11 billion in costs under management by 2025. Leading investors of the merger include Fresenius Medical Care, Valtruis, Oak Hc/FT, Cigna Ventures and Blue Shield of California.
While providing care for more than 270,000 patients with kidney disease, the company intends to use its StageSmart machine learning and predictive GFR model to identify and risk stratify patients.
“In order to best support patients with kidney disease, the new InterWell Health puts nephrologists at the center of our efforts, including as investors and as members of our board of directors and clinical committees. By partnering with InterWell Health, physicians will obtain the resources they need to provide superior care, manage disease progression and improve outcomes,” George Hart, MD, chief medical officer of InterWell Health, said in the release.
The merger is designed to improve nephrology care throughout a patient’s entire journey with kidney disease, and “the new company expects to improve health outcomes for individuals with kidney disease and reduce costs to public and private payers, health systems and all others that take risk for this vulnerable and complex patient population,” according to the release.
