UC Davis Health launches program to achieve equity in transplantation

UC Davis Health launched the Pluralist Program, an initiative designed to increase organ donations among underrepresented groups, at a streamed event in April.
Funded by CareDx, Donate A Life and the National Kidney Foundation, the Pluralist Program stands for “patient-centered precision digital health education.” The program is a precision medicine approach designed to achieve health equity through health education interventions based on a patient-centered committee, data science and digital technology.
Richard V. Perez, MD, chief of transplant surgery and medical director for the UC Davis Health Transplant Center, said in the presentation, “Innovative programs like the Pluralist Program are exciting because [these offer] a new way to reach into the communities and identify interventions that will improve education and, ultimately, lead to more transplantation and getting more people off the waiting lists.”
During the event, transplant recipients and donors shared testimonies and speakers discussed the importance of achieving health equity by urging people to become living donors.
“We are committed to leading the effort in health equity in the transplant space and delivering comprehensive care to help our patients achieve their best possible outcome,” Perez said in a press release. “The Pluralist Program will increase organ donations, improve transplants and enhance the quality of care for transplant patients throughout California.”
