Fresenius Medical Care has appointed Nwamaka Amaka Eneanya, MD, MPH, FASN, as head of strategy and operations for its global medical office.

According to a press release, Eneanya previously served as director of health equity, anti-racism and community engagement in the nephrology division at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2020, Eneanya advocated for the removal of the race coefficient from the eGFR equations in an article published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Following her research, Eneanya served on a joint task force for the American Society of Nephrology and the National Kidney Foundation to reevaluate race in eGFR.

“As both a board-certified clinician and expert researcher, Dr. Eneanya brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise that will advance our work in improving outcomes for people living with kidney disease,” Frank Maddux, MD, the global chief medical officer of Fresenius Medical Care, said in the release. “Her insights regarding health equity, patient-reported outcomes and social engagement in health care and public health will be key elements to inform our ongoing medical strategy.”
