This year marks Northwest Kidney Centers 60th anniversary as a nonprofit dialysis organization in the U.S.

According to a press release, Northwest Kidney Centers has grown to be the eighth largest dialysis provider in the U.S. since its beginning in 1962. The organization found its origin when Belding Scribner from the University of Washington created the Scribner Shunt that allowed patients to live with repeated dialysis.

“We are excited and proud to celebrate a legacy of 60 years that has given life and hope to thousands of people with chronic kidney disease around the world,” Rebecca Fox, president and CEO of Northwest Kidney Centers, said. “What was at first thought of as a miracle treatment championed by Northwest Kidney Centers in 1962 has now become the standard of care around the world.”

Northwest Kidney Centers plans to celebrate throughout the year with its HopeBuilders Luncheon on May 12, 2022, and its Discovery Gala on Oct. 15, 2022.

“Northwest Kidney Centers’ history and roots in the local community run deep. We’re proud to invest more than $3 million annually to support those in need,” Fox said. “I feel honored to be entrusted with shepherding Northwest Kidney Centers’ legacy into the next 60 years and beyond.”
