In this video from ASN Kidney Week, Anthony Bleyer, MD, discussed his large cohort study on risk factors and outcomes of gout in patients on dialysis.

In the study, Bleyer, who is a professor of internal medicine/nephrology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and colleagues found 15% of U.S. patients on dialysis also had gout.

“What was interesting to me was the high level of patients with gout,” Bleyer said.

“As expected, the patients with gout had a higher level of many comorbid conditions,” he said.
