Fresenius Medical Care North America announced the appointments of three individuals to clinical leadership positions.
These include Kathleen Belmonte, MS, RN, FNP-BC, MBA, as chief nursing officer and senior vice president of clinical services for Fresenius Kidney Care; Benjamin Hippen, MD, FASN, FAST, as senior vice president and head of transplant medicine for the global medical office; and Shelly Nash, DO, FACOOG, as senior vice president and chief medical information officer for FMCNA.
With these appointments, the company seeks to improve patient outcomes, increase access to transplant and adopt connected health technologies to support home dialysis, according to a press release.
"We welcome these exceptional clinical leaders who bring many years of deep experience working both inside and outside our company," Bill Valle, CEO of FMCNA, said in the release. "These individuals will help us continue to be the leader in value-based care and transforming kidney care models that slow disease progression, while improving home dialysis and transplantation rates, clinical quality, and information technology to enhance experiences and affordability for the benefit of employees, physician partners, payors, and most importantly, our patients."
The release provided some specifics on the roles that Belmonte, Hippen and Nash will play in their new positions:
- As part of her role, Belmonte will lead care delivery efforts across the “renal care continuum,” oversee career advancement opportunities and continue implementing COVID-19 policies and procedures, especially as these relate to vaccination efforts;
- Hippen, who has 15 years of experience as a general and transplant nephrologist and practicing physician, will focus on transplantation as it relates to patient-centered care; and
- Nash, who previously served as chief medical information officer for AdventHealth, will develop strategies for improved communication between clinical services and information technology.
Franklin W. Maddux, MD, FACP, global chief medical officer for Fresenius Medical Care, also commented on the appointments in the release.
"This expansion of our executive team underscores our commitment to improving patient outcomes on a global scale by acknowledging new leadership capabilities needed in the company,” he said. "Under their leadership in nursing care, health information technology, and organ transplantation, we will continue to drive innovation, expertise, and credibility that will enhance our ability to provide the highest quality of innovative and holistic care."
