The American Society of Nephrology announced on Sept. 15 that it would transition ASN Kidney Week 2021 from a hybrid meeting to an all-virtual format.

While last year the meeting was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting this year was to consist of an in-person component, which would have allowed attendees to choose whether to gather in San Diego or attend sessions remotely. Organizers have again cited concerns about the virus, specifically as these relate to rises in cases driven by the delta variant, as the reason for the shift.

“I’m excited about ASN’s ability to build on last year’s success and provide an incredible educational and scientific experience for all participants,” ASN President Susan E. Quaggin, MD, FASN, said in the release. “The kidney community is deeply committed to continuing education, learning more about the latest scientific advances, and improving care for the millions of people with kidney diseases, and a fully virtual ASN Kidney Week 2021 will exceed the community’s understandably high expectations.”

According to the release, on-demand content for early programs will be available on Oct. 25, 2021, with virtual sessions – as well as access to posters, exhibits and networking – running from Nov. 4 through Nov. 7.

Due to these changes, early registration for ASN Kidney Week 2021 has been extended until Sept. 22. Please visit this link for more information on the transition: https://www.asn-online.org/education/kidneyweek/2021/KW21_FAQs.pdf
