The National Kidney Foundation launched an educational, animated video series addressing several topics related to kidney cancer to improve awareness and understanding of the disease.

The series involves six videos discussing the generalities of kidney cancer, its stages, surgical treatments and procedures, surgical approaches, immunotherapy, targeted therapy and precision medicine. The 1- to 2.5-minute videos are in English and Spanish.

Kevin Longino

“Kidney disease is already a public health crisis affecting more than 37 million adults in the U.S., yet 90% don’t even know they have it or understand the importance of preserving kidney function while being treated for kidney cancer,” Kevin Longino, CEO of the NKF and a kidney transplant recipient, said in a press release.

Most kidney cancers are found by chance, according to the press release, which makes recognizing signs and symptoms vital to catching mutations early on before these become cancerous. While the videos address warning signs of kidney cancers, the videos also discuss lifestyle choices that increase the risk for these diseases.

“It is our hope that sharing complex medical information through animated educational videos will help improve patient outcomes, as well as their understanding of kidney cancer and the treatment options available to them,” Longino said.

The videos are available for viewing via the NKF’s YouTube profile.
