Fresenius Medical Care North America has initiated use of a cloud-based connected health platform to better manage patients on peritoneal dialysis, according to a press release.

Mark Costanzo

“The Kinexus platform is an important step to further accelerating the adoption of home dialysis by enabling patient treatment data to flow more easily and simply to the care teams,” Mark Costanzo, president of FMCNA’s Renal Therapies Group, said in the release. “Our new connected health system is compatible, agile and scalable, which will allow for an evolution of new features.”

The release outlined key benefits of using a connected platform, which include a reduction in hospitalizations and technique failure, as well as potentially reducing patient dropout by 15% and increasing longevity on peritoneal dialysis by 3.5 months.

“By making recent treatment data more easily accessible to clinicians, we hope to empower care teams to resolve treatment issues earlier ... [and] reduce unnecessary hospitalizations,” Mike Anger, MD, chief medical officer for FMCNA’s Renal Therapies Group, said. “This is a significant and important upgrade that will make the home dialysis experience even better for patients and providers.”

Although the platform is targeted for use only in the Liberty Select Cycler, the company anticipates integration with its other home dialysis products in the future.

The release indicated that Kinexus is available for all dialysis providers.
