Monogram Health appointed Seema Verma, MPH, as an independent director on its board of directors, according to a press release.
A former CMS administrator, Verma is considered an expert on health policy and value-based care.
“We are delighted to welcome Seema Verma to our board as an independent director. Her recent work at CMS to improve kidney disease patients’ access to high-quality, coordinated care aligns directly with our company’s purpose and brings an invaluable perspective to our board,” Sen. Bill Frist, MD, Monogram Health’s board chair, said in the release.
In 2020, Verma launched the Kidney Care Choices Model at CMS to improve the quality of life experienced by patients with kidney disease while expanding treatment options at a more affordable cost. At the same time, Verma served on the White House COVID-19 Task Force.
Verma is the longest-tenured CMS administrator in recent history, according to the release. In 2019, the American Society of Nephrology selected Verma as the recipient of its President’s Medal for her work on the Advancing American Kidney Health initiative, which the White House launched that year to improve access to transplantation.
“Traditional models for paying for kidney disease care have failed to innovate and put patients first,” Verma said in the release. “More must be done to improve outcomes and quality of life for patients with this devasting disease, including encouraging transplants and home-based dialysis.”
