The American Kidney Fund has partnered with Backpack Health, of Konica Minolta, to grant patients access to their medical records through the latter’s mobile- and web-based service.
According to a press release, the secure mobile- and web-based service will allow patients with kidney disease to better manage their personal health information, while providing them with educational information (developed by the AKF) about their condition.
“It is our honor to support individuals living with kidney disease by offering advanced technology that empowers patients and their caregivers to take control of their health information,” Matthew Silva, DO, CEO of Invicro and a board member of Konica Minolta Precision Medicine, said in the release. “Our mission is to develop and deploy industry-leading technologies and biomarkers that improve health care and connect users through the Backpack Health platform.”
The release elaborated on the platform, jointly called the AKF Backpack Health Group, noting that the term “backpack” refers to the ability of patients to consolidate their health information – including lab results and medication information – in a portable way. The information can then be shared with health care teams at any time.
AKF president and CEO, LaVarne A. Burton, also commented on the partnership.
“This partnership with Backpack Health promises to help the patient community we serve to simplify some of the administrative side of living with a chronic illness,” she said. “As members of the AKF Backpack Health group, they will be able to easily share and track their health information and join our online community dedicated to helping them live their healthiest lives possible.”
