Fresenius Kidney Care’s dialysis facilities will begin using data from the CommonWell Health Alliance which, according to a press release, will enable the “near real-time” exchange of patient-related health information.

The press release further noted that because patients with kidney failure often have multiple comorbidities, they are frequently treated by a variety of health care professionals at different sites; therefore, according to the release, the sharing of information is integral to coordinating care efforts tailored to individual patients.

“Ensuring all health care providers have the most up-to-date records when our dialysis patients receive care is vital to providing the best treatment and outcomes possible,” Mike Asselta, president of Fresenius Kidney Care, said in the release. “By implementing this leading national exchange, we are taking another important step toward better coordinated care for all patients living with kidney failure.”

According to the release, Fresenius Kidney Care has already implemented the data exchange services in certain states and facilities. The company plans to continue expanding use of these services in the coming months.
