The American Kidney Fund has developed a financial assistance program to ensure that low-income kidney transplant recipients receive adequate testing following transplantation, according to a press release.
“Accurate and early diagnosis of rejection or kidney injury in a transplanted kidney gives clinicians the opportunity to intervene before the damage is severe,” LaVarne A. Burton, AKF president and CEO, said in the release. “Our new Post-Transplant Testing Program helps to ensure that low-income patients are not precluded from getting these diagnostic tests if they cannot afford the out-of-pocket expenses associated with them.”
The release provided more specifics on the program, noting that patients who have received a kidney transplant within the past 10 years and who have an annual income up to 400% of the federal poverty level, will be eligible for an annual maximum grant of $1,200 to cover cell-free DNA tests.
Patients, designated caregivers or renal professionals can apply for grants through the AKF’s online grants management system. If interested, visit: gms.kidneyfund.org
