Home dialysis nurse to receive NKF award for improving patients’ lives
The National Kidney Foundation will present the Carol Mattix Award to Teri Jo Kinnison, RN, BS, CNN, at the now-virtual NKF Spring Clinical Meetings, the group announced in the press release.
“This award is meant to recognize a nurse who dedicates their career to improving patient's lives, not just their health. Teri Jo Kinnison meets this high expectation,” Holly Kramer, MD, MPH, president of NKF, said in the release.
After nursing school, Kinnison worked in the ICU and later learned hemodialysis and the complex care of patients with end-stage kidney failure. According to the release, Kinnison has worked in dialysis for 38 years, in positions ranging from in-center nurse, clinical specialist and quality assurance director.
Kinnison, of Tempe, Arizona, now works for DaVita Kidney Care. For the past 3 years, she has worked in home hemodialysis and helped patients learn dialysis procedures.
"I’m very appreciative of this award in the name of Carol Mattix, who was an inspirational home dialysis training nurse, and it is an honor to be connected to her,” Kinnison said in the release. "Education that supports the development of self-confidence in managing their medical care is essential to positively impact patient lives."
