David Mahoney, MD, who most recently served as chief medical officer of Lifeline Vascular Access Care, has been named the new chief medical officer for DaVita Hospital Services Group.

Mahoney succeeds Jeffrey Giullian, MD, MBA, FASN, who now serves as chief medical officer for DaVita Kidney Care.

“Dr. Mahoney is an experienced leader, who is focused on innovating to deliver highly coordinated kidney care in inpatient settings,” Giullian said in a company press release. “DaVita Hospital Services Group has a proven history of improving patient outcomes, while also reducing costs to hospitals, and I'm confident that Dr. Mahoney will build on this success.”

According to the release, Giullian completed his residency and nephrology fellowship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and served as an Army physician for 10 years. Regarding his work for DaVita, Mahoney has served as the medical director of a DaVita Kidney Care chronic dialysis center, a hospital acute dialysis service and his practice’s vascular access center.

Regarding his priorities in his new role, Mahoney said, “I'll continue efforts that support the quality and safety programs we have developed with local hospitals to help more patients return home as quickly as possible. An important part of that is the communication of data to ensure a smooth transition to outpatient care.”
