The National Kidney Foundation announced that “out of an abundance of caution” in relation to COVID-19 it will change its 2020 Spring Clinical Meetings, planned for March 26-29 in New Orleans, to a live-virtual meeting.

“Over the weekend, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its recommendations for older adults and people with kidney disease or other severe chronic medical conditions. They note that these groups appear to be at higher risk for experiencing more serious COVID-19 illness,” Jessica Joseph, MBA, senior vice president of scientific operations for the NKF, said in a statement announcing the change. “Out of an abundance of caution to protect your health, and the health of the patients you care for, the NKF is changing the NKF 2020 Spring Clinical Meetings (SCM) to a live-virtual meeting.”

Registrants will receive additional information on the logistics for participation in the next several days. The registration fee will provide access to up to 30 CME/CE credits, and the Spring Clinical Meetings app will still be live throughout the virtual conference. Attendees who purchased lunch workshops or pre-conference course tickets will be reimbursed, Joseph said.
