Nephrology Practice Solutions, a subsidiary of DaVita Inc., is now affiliated with Partners in Nephrology and Endocrinology, a large Pittsburgh-based physician practice with 34 physicians and advanced practitioners.

Partners in Nephrology and Endocrinology (PINE) has been acquired by NPS Physicians Pittsburgh, LLC.

“PINE’s commitment to holistic kidney care aligns with our vision for the future,” Javier Rodriguez, CEO for DaVita Inc., said in a statement. “Making real progress toward value-based care for patients with kidney disease will require us to create fundamentally different partnership models with nephrologists and payers, and we are excited to innovate with PINE.”

With this transaction, PINE will have access to the practice management expertise, data and technology of NPS to help the practice rapidly transform its value-based care delivery infrastructure. PINE and NPS together expect to reduce administrative burden for physicians and create more opportunity for the practice to focus on care delivery, population health and the patient experience.

“Ultimately, we believe this transition will strengthen our practice, allow for long-term growth and enable us to better serve the needs of our patients and community,” James Weiss, MD, one of PINE’s senior physician leaders, said in the release. “We want to make every effort to position our physician leaders at the forefront of the next generation of integrated treatment and management of kidney and endocrine diseases.”

NPS now owns or manages practices in eight states and provides nephrology-specific solutions and metrics to help practices achieve improved clinical outcomes and business success.

“NPS is proud to work with PINE and to assist physician practices that are interested in continuing to grow and collaborate in the evolving delivery of high quality, integrated kidney care,” Robert Provenzano, MD, chief medical officer for NPS, said in the release.
