The National Kidney Foundation will present its Excellence In Kidney Transplantation Award to Gabriel Danovitch, MD, at the NKF Spring Clinical Meetings in New Orleans in March, according to the press release.
Danovitch served on the faculty at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and has also directed the nephrology unit at Soroka Hospital in Israel. Danovitch is the John J. Kuiper Chair in nephrology and renal transplantation at the David Geffen School of Medicine at University of California, Los Angeles.
According to the release, Danovitch has dedicated his career to various aspects of clinical kidney transplantation and is a worldwide known authority on transplant immunosuppression, clinical transplant care, transplant ethics and public policy.
“I am honored to present this award to Dr. Danovitch as his contribution to the field embodies the spirit and purpose of this recognition,” Holly Kramer, MD, MPH, president of NKF, said in the release. “His work advances our understanding of this devastating disease and that ultimately helps patients live better lives.”
The award recognizes a scientist or clinician scientist who has benefited research and significantly improved novel insights in access to kidney transplantation.
“It has been a privilege for me to be involved in the care of transplant patients for over 3 decades,” Danovitch said in the release. “I am honored by the award and to be in the company of scientists and clinicians it represents.”
