DaVita Kidney Care names new chief medical officer

Jeffrey Giullian

Jeffrey Giullian, MD, MBA, FASN, most recently the chief medical officer of DaVita Hospital Services, has been named the new chief medical officer for DaVita Kidney Care. He is set to begin the position on Jan. 1, 2020.

“Dr. Giullian is a dynamic, visionary leader who will push the boundaries on the positive impact we can make on kidney health,” Javier Rodriguez, CEO for DaVita Inc., said in a company press release. “We have great confidence that he'll continue to build on the clinical foundation our team of physician leaders has built for 20 years.”

According to the release, Giullian attended Vanderbilt University, where he was trained in nephrology and transplantation, and attended the University of Colorado in Denver, where he received his MBA. He has also been an active member of the Renal Physicians Association. Regarding his work for DaVita, Giullian was national group medical director and an organizer of local clinical operations response efforts during natural disasters, among other roles.

Giullian succeeds Allen R. Nissenson, MD, FACP, who served as DaVita Kidney Care chief medical officer (CMO) for 11 years.

“I'm honored to follow Dr. Nissenson as CMO and I have deep gratitude for the impact he has made on kidney care,” Giullian said. “I am committed to partnering with our physicians to provide holistic, integrated care for patients in all phases of kidney disease. Together, I believe we can forge a future of innovation and reduce the global burden of kidney failure.”
