WASHINGTON — At ASN Kidney Week, Abdul A. Abdellatif, MD, FASN, presented results of a study on renal transplant patients that found those with gout had increased rates of transplant-related complications.

“We noticed that when we looked at those patients, even though some of the patients may have had preexisting gout before they had their kidney transplant, still the patients who developed new-onset gout after transplant were at higher risk of complications than those patients who came in having gout before their transplant,” he said.
