Fresenius partners with public safety communications platform to continue dialysis in emergencies

Fresenius Medical Care North America has announced a partnership with FirstNet, a communications system dedicated to public safety, according to a press release.
“FirstNet is the exclusive nationwide network being built with AT&T for public safety, inspired by public safety,” Edward Parkinson, acting CEO of FirstNet Authority, said in the release.
During natural disasters and other emergencies, communication will be facilitated between first responders and health care providers, such as FMCNA’s Disaster Response Team, according to the release. In this way, FirstNet will help employees stay connected to continue providing patients with kidney failure critical access to dialysis treatments.
“We are proud to be one of the first private health care providers to join the FirstNet communications platform,” Bob Loeper, vice president for operations support and disaster response at FMCNA, said in the release. “During any disaster situation, we must have reliable and accurate communications to coordinate directly with first responders and our staff. Every hour counts for patients who depend on life-sustaining dialysis, so this network will help ensure we can always deliver high-quality care even in the midst of the most difficult circumstances.”
