BOSTON — At the National Kidney Foundation’s 2019 Spring Clinical Meetings, Gregory Mader, PhD, a senior research health economist from RTI Health Solutions, spoke about a new economic model developed to predict long-term health outcomes and time to ESRD for patients with rapidly progressing autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease.
The model, which predicts eGFR decline through use of the “Irazabal equation” and the Mayo classification system, was designed to capture rates of progression which vary between patients, according to Mader.
“We [also] wanted the progression equation to be validated against long-term real-world data that includes patients reaching ESRD just to ensure that what we’re estimating within the model can be reproduced in the real world,” Mader said.
