Flavis partners with the NKF to promote medical nutrition therapy for CKD
The National Kidney Foundation announced it will be teaming up with Flavis, the kidney-friendly food brand, to promote the benefits of special dietary foods for patients with chronic kidney disease, according to a press release.
Through this partnership, Flavis and the NKF will provide educational outreach to health care professionals that promotes the importance of medical nutrition therapy and proper nutrition for patients with CKD to improve dietary adherence and quality of life.
Medical nutrition therapy (MNT) for CKD emphasizes an individualized diet plan, laid out by a dietitian, based on a patient’s clinical status, goals and personal preferences. MNT for patients with CKD can include decreased sodium, phosphorus, potassium and protein intake. Additionally, it may include foods higher in fiber and decreased saturated fat.

According to the release, benefits of MNT include decreased risk of complications from high blood pressure and diabetes, as well as a reduction in uremic toxin levels and preservation of kidney function over time.
Flavis provides support to kidney health care professionals alongside offering kidney-friendly breads, pasta, snacks and baking products for patients following a diet low in protein, phosphorus, sodium and potassium.
